
Sliding temple spectacles were hand made until the invention of the spectacle making machine in 1833. This style frame featured temples that could be retracted to make the entire frame shorter in length. Such frames were popular with people who had to travel. They could be stored in a much smaller case. Examples were made in steel, silver, coin silver, and gold.

All four lenses are in good condition.
The brass frames shows signs of much use. Frame width is 4 3/8 inches wide.
Temple length is 4 inches closed and 5 1/2 extended.
