Steel Edward Scarlet spectacles circa 1727
Scarlet type spectacles were the first eyeglasses made with temple arms
They were patented in London in 1727
This pair is in good condition
The round loop at the end of each temple is called a wig loop
One coil of a wig could be wound through these loops so that the wig and the spectacles could be put on at the same time
Also, wig loops helped to hold the specs in place
These spectacles come with their original flip-top case
The case is in excellent condition
4 ¾ inches wide
4 ¼ inch temples
