1800 Sliding Temple Spectacles
Sliding temple spectacles were hand made until the invention of the spectacle making machine in 1833. This style frame featured temples that could be retracted to make the entire frame shorter in length. Such frames were popular with people who had to travel. They could be stored in a much smaller case. Examples were made in steel, silver, coin silver, and gold.

The front lenses have a lighter tint than the rear lenses.
Most likely these frames served a medical purpose.
The owner could fold the back lenses forward on bright days.
None of the lenses have magnification.
