Solid gold hand held monocle made by
American Optical Company in the late 1800's
This style reading aid is a cross between
a monocle and a quizzing glass.
It was worn around the neck and used to read menus and playbills.
It has a larger lens than a monocle.
The gold content is not marked.
However, it test between 10 and 12 K. This was common at that time.
The monocle is in excellent condition.
The case is badly worn and cannot be used.
