The pince-nez style that uses a "C" shaped spring to hold the eyeglasses in place was very popular from 1870 to WWII. This style of pince-nez is easier to fit than the style called "Hard Bridge". Many examples of the spring bridge style are in solid gold. Such frames can be modified by a jeweler. Solid gold frames may be heated and the spring reshaped to fit. However, it is best to purchase a frame that is as close as possible to the correct bridge size. If you wear eyeglasses with nose pads, measure the gap between the center of the nose pads. For most people, nose pad width is between 20 and 22mm.
