I recently purchased a warehouse stock of plastic frames made in the late 1960's to mid 1970's. These frames are never used and in their original packaging. Frames from this period tend to be sturdy in manufacture. This period saw the introduction of new lens shapes. Traditionally, lenses were round, oval, ovid, and octagon. New lenses tended to be rectangular or square with corners rounded to soften these shapes.
Metal frames from this period also have a rectangular or squarish shape, often with oversize lenses.
