About Swank Glasses
Swank was a brand of designer eyeglasses for women. As a French designer, their styles were often more creative and unique than similar styles made by American designers between the 1950s and 1970s. The cat eye frame was their best selling style, particularly in the first few decades before larger and rounder lenses came into fashion.
Cat eye glasses from Swank were bold, emphasizing the already dramatic styling of 1950s and 1960s cat eye glasses. Some of Swank’s most memorable styles used:
- Extremely narrow lenses.
- Thick frames.
- Mother of pearl rhinestones.
- Copper inlays over the eye wires and temples.
- Mother of pearl fades on the temples.
In their later glasses, Swank often combined acetate and metal, using gold or silver to provide accents. Other features, like drop temples, ombre coloring, and temples that connect at the bottom half of the lenses make vintage Swank glasses from the 1970s and 1980s stand out from their vintage counterparts. Many of the decorative elements in Swank glasses were handset with an attention to quality that is expected from designer frames.
Swank’s signature marking was two metal stars on the temples or the Swank France marking. All of our Swank glasses at Eyeglasses Warehouse are authentic designer frames, many of which are new old stock and have never been worn.
